The following is a statement from Jessa Timmer, Executive Director of CIDBIA, and Sue-May Eng, President of the Chong Wa Benevolent Association announcing a community forum to speak about an ordinance concerning unsanctioned homeless encampments:
Dear Chinatown-International District Community Members,
Over the past few weeks, an ACLU-backed ordinance addressing unsanctioned homeless encampments has been making its way through the Seattle City Council Committee on Human Services and Public Health. Many of you have spoken out through emails, letters, and public comment and we want to thank you for your efforts. We have been diligently working on making sure this community’s voice is heard loud and clear to our City Council Members.
Chong Wa and the BIA are hosting a community forum on Thursday, October 6 at Chong Wa Benevolent Association (522 7th Ave S).
At this forum, we will be:
- giving an update on some changes to the ordinance,
- discussing ways you can get involved,
- exploring an action plan going forward,
- and most importantly, listening to the community for feedback to bring back to City Council
Please join us and others in the community to share your concerns.
