The AAPIs Beyond Bars & Beyond Borders Grassroots Convening will bring together diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) leaders and currently incarcerated AAPIs to discuss mass incarceration, criminal deportation, and culturally-relevant prisoner rehabilitation and re-entry programs. During a closed session at Monroe Correctional Complex at Washington State Reformatory Unit (WSRU), participants will meet with several prisoners, all of whom have deportation orders and could be deported upon release. On Friday, participants will talk to US deportees in Cambodia via Skype about immigrant justice and challenges facing American deportees, followed by a rally at the Northwest Detention Center, a facility that detains and processes many Southeast Asian Americans for deportation.
