I am very sad, as are many in the community about the horrible and tragic murder of Donnie Chin. He was beloved, a tireless fighter for folks and a selfless human being.

I have a story about him that exemplified his character. In the early 1980s, I served on the SPD Charity Board and I urged Donnie to make a pitch for money for the International District Emergency Center (IDEC). And in his characteristic way he told me, “I didn’t want to deal with bull____ paperwork and bureaucracy.” But I said to him, “Just be yourself and tell them what you do.” So he did and they knew how crucial his work was. Decision made. Check issued soon after. … And he was so surprised. But he should not have been. The work he did was so essential, saving lives and safeguarding the community.

As an individual his value was immeasurable but the price he paid was devastating.

Justice for Donnie.
