The community is invited to take a survey on the location and sign type for a Filipinotown street sign in Seattle’s Chinatown International District. This initial sign will be a standard street design and solely used as a placemaker.
The survey has four questions. Respondents can join a survey raffle for a $25 Hood Famous Cafe gift card through March 15, 2026.
In 2017, the Seattle City Council officially recognized Filipinotown as part of the Chinatown-International District and passed legislation “In support of the historical contributions of Filipinos… Seattle incorporates Filipinotown as part of the Chinatown/International District” (#31769, 2017).

This street sign will help alleviate the over 100 years of forgotten Filipino presence in Seattle, and signal our continued commitment to the International District as championed by people such as Uncle Bob Santos, Frankie Irigon, Dolores Sibonga, Pio DeCano, David Della, and a new generation of Filipino Americans.
Currently this project is supported by the city and possible for 2026 installation. One simple sign is a beginning step to affirming the multiracial nature of the district. This project is organized by the non-profit Filipinotown Seattle.
