Walk for Rice 2016

Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) will be having their annual Walk for Rice on Saturday, June 25. Nearly 1,000 people come together at Seattle’s Seward Park to raise funds for the ACRS Food Bank and nutrition programs. This all-ages and pet friendly event features cultural celebrations and a 2.5 mile walk/run around Seward Park. New additions for this year are live music by Theory of Change and food trucks, including Mangia Me and Outside the Box. Results from ACRS’ participation in CenturyLink’s Food Bank Match Days will also be announced.

In 2015, the ACRS Food Bank distributed over 1 million pounds of culturally familiar and nutritious foods to more than 5,100 individuals and families. Clients make over 120,000 visits to our 700-square foot facility in the Chinatown/International District over the course of the year, and most are seniors over 65 and youth under 18 years of age. ACRS staff and volunteers serve our primarily Asian American and Pacific Islander clients by providing nutritious foods they recognize, like rice, tofu, noodles and fresh fruits and vegetables, which are purchase with proceeds from Walk for Rice. The fundraising goal for 2016 is $275,000.
