Alice Taketa of San Jose, California, demonstrates her wind-up pitch for actress Tamlyn Tomita during the National Day of remembrance at the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of American History in 1998. The event commemorates the internment of Japanese Americans following Executive Order 9066 in 1942. Although baseball was played mostly by men and boys in the camps, this photo adds to evidence that women and girls also took a turn on the field. Photo by Corky Lee.
