Over the Fourth of July Weekend, Puget Sound Energy (PSE) representatives and volunteers hosted an Ethnic Engagement Event to kick-off Rock the Bulb: The Re-Energize Tour, where PSE gave out over 200,000 free compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs to customers throughout the Puget Sound region. Thousands of people flocked to H-Mart located in Federal Way to attend this high-energy and rock nâ roll themed event. Families were entertained with educational activities and games. Each family also received free PSE tote bags and an ENERGY STARÂŽ qualified, energy-efficient CFL bulb. One lucky participant also won a Gibson Electric Guitar as a raffle prize giveaway via Facebook Contest.
The PSE Bulb Mobile, a custom decorated truck distributing CFL bulbs at Puget Sound-area community events this summer, also made an appearance along with an Elvis Presley impersonator. PSE volunteers went out of their way to offer tips on saving money, going green, and being more energy-efficient especially for the summer. Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, and Spanish speakers were on staff to provide in-language assistance.
âWe want to make a big impact,â said Paul Wu, Puget Sound Energy Spokesperson. âRock the Bulb: the Re-energize Tour will result in savings of 46.2 million kilowatts of electricity, $9.4 million in energy costs, and prevent more than 50.8 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.â
CFL bulbs use 75 percent less electricity and can outlast ten incandescent light bulbs. PSE is actively engaging multicultural communities this summer to educate their customers on how making the switch can save $450 or more in energy costs over the life of their light bulbs. Rock the Bulb: The Re-Energize Tour will continue to distribute more free CFL light bulbs to customers during special bulb exchange events at retail locations around the Puget Sound region spanning eight weekends. Customers can bring up to 10 incandescent bulbs to exchange for CFLâs and participate in fun, educational activities for the whole family. Future tour locations include: Bremerton, Kent, Renton, Redmond, Oak Harbor, Lacey, and Burlington.
PSE encourages customers to participate by attending Tour events and becoming rock star Re-Energizers. For more information about PSEâs Rock the Bulb: The Re-Energize Tour, go to:
