Job title: IE Advertising Representative
Reports to: Editor in Chief
Number of hours: Full-time, 40 hours a week
Pay rate: Negotiable, base pay plus commission incentives, health benefits
Base pay plus 9% commission on all sales between $5,000 –  $10,000; 20%
for sales above $10,000. Per issue goal: $7500, monthly $15,000

Description: The Advertising Representative is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the advertising and circulation operations for the International Examiner, the only non-profit Asian American newspaper in the country. This position involves sales to new advertisers, maintaining contracts, and overseeing the distribution of the newspaper.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for soliciting new advertisers and retaining current advertisers
  • Sales calls, contacts and follow-ups with potential advertisers
  • Service and negotiate existing advertising accounts
  • Establish and maintain database of potential and current advertisers
  • Design and/or oversee design of ads in time for production deadlines
  • Establish and maintain good relationship with advertisers, and maintain business-to-business relationships
  • Distribute paper and oversee distribution of Examiner publications
  • Other advertising/circulation/project responsibilities as needed byboard and editor

Skills required:

  • Sales background preferred
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to coordinate and organize details
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Able to use Mac computers and MS Word/Excel

Other Expectations:

  • Strive for and meet target revenue goals
  • Keep log of calls to and contacts of new/current advertisers
  • Track contracts accurately; renew as needed
  • Ensure that all ads are in before Friday of publication date
  • Copyedit ads and classifieds
