The International Community Health Services (ICHS), the largest Asian Pacific American health provider in Washington state, last week announced a $20,000 operational support grant from the Seattle Foundation. ICHS serves over 17,000 patients at its International District and Holly Park locations. Teresita Batayola, ICHS CEO, said the Seattle Foundation grant will support the cost of uncompensated care for uninsured patients, most of whom are non-English-speaking low-income immigrants and refugees. “The budget cuts ICHS has endured in the last 18 months, in addition to new budget cuts announced by the state, have severely hampered our ability to serve the increased number of patients coming through our doors,” Batayola said. “We are grateful for this Seattle Foundation grant. It will assist in patching the health care safety net.”
