The body of Gene Viernes is carried into the Cannery Workers union hall near Pioneer Square for a memorial service. Viernes, along with his co-worker Silme Domingo, was gunned down by hitmen at the same location on June 1, 1981. The photographer recalls that the crowd of mourners was so large that he and others were unable to get inside the building. Photo by Dean Wong, 1981.
