Thousands of Vietnamese, Laotian, Hmong, and Cambodian refugees arrived in Washington State in the 1970s and ’80s, and they were often reduced to headlines and stereotypes by the mainstream media. Curator’s Fellow Thanh Tan provides context, updates, and community perspectives on the photographs and ephemera in MOHAI Collections, and adds artifacts and other materials loaned from community members. The exhibit explores the legacy of the Southeast Asian refugee and immigrant experience, and emphasizes the importance of collecting and preserving family and community histories.
