CMarr Automotive is on the move.
For seven years the shop has called the International District home and will continue to do so, but in different digs.
The auto shop owned by brothers Eric and Curtis Marr will vacate its home at 710 S. Jackson St. at the end of May or early June to relocate to the Royal Glass Building at 12th and Weller.
The business leased 3,000 square feet at its old location and will move into 6,000 square feet of leased space in its new home. The Royal Glass Company currently occupies the space where CMarr plans to move, but will stay on the site and move upstairs.
The building is owned by Don and Doug Mar of Marpac Construction.
Royal Glass, which does mostly residential glass jobs, has occupied the space since 1978, said owner Tom Sakamoto.
Sakamoto said he plans to vacate by May 10 and CMarr will start to move in soon after with plans to reopen in early June.
Despite the recession, business has been consistent for CMarr but more space was needed to serve customers.
â[The recession] really hasnât affected us much,â Eric Marr said. âWeâre pretty steady here. Maybeâs itâs because people are holding onto their older cars. We havenât slowed down any.â
The brothers have four employees, including a couple cousins, and they repair all types of vehicles.
The family business works out well most of the time, Eric Marr said.
âWe know when to stay out of each otherâs hair,â he said.
Curtis Marr worked on vehicles in the King County Sheriffâs Department fleet for 12 years and Eric Marr worked as a mechanic for U.S. Customs for 12 years before they went into business together.
Both were born in Seattle and grew up in the Rainier Valley and Beacon Hill neighborhoods and attended Franklin High School.
CMarr contributes to Kin-On Health Care Center and Nikkei Concerns – both agencies that serve the elder Asian Pacific American communities, said Eric Marr. Both brothers are Chinese American but are married to Japanese Americans.
