Assistant Director, Parent/Guardian Giving with Lakeside School

Lakeside School, an independent, grades 5-12 coeducational day school located in north Seattle, is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director, Parent/Guardian Giving. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Major and Planned Giving. This position joins a 10-person development office, which manages the school’s fundraising through annual, major, capital, and planned giving programs; alumni and constituent relations; and special events. The position’s primary responsibility, with the Assistant Director- Alumni Giving, is to co-manage and co-administer the Lakeside Fund annual giving program, which raises more than $2.5 million for the school’s operating budget. Key Lakeside Fund components include alumni and parent/guardian volunteer recruitment and training to conduct peer solicitations; a direct mail, text-a-thon, and phonathon program; a faculty/staff campaign; and a gift information management and tracking system.


Responsibilities 

  1. Co-manage and implement the Lakeside Fund annual giving program using a variety of solicitation and stewardship methods. Develop creative and effective outreach strategies. Set goals for dollars and participation for all Lakeside constituencies (parents/guardians, alumni, parents of alumni, faculty/staff, grandparents, friends). Oversee the Lakeside Fund gift acknowledgement process and budget.
  2. Build strong relationships with current Lakeside parents and guardians, and interface with the Parents and Guardians Association (PGA). (Note: The PGA has a separate staff liaison.)
  3. Work seamlessly with the alumni relations and major and planned giving programs to ensure a strategic, effective, donor-oriented approach to fund and friend raising.
  4. Recruit, train, and support volunteers who help carry out the Lakeside Fund program.
  5. Create, manage, and participate in events/activities that have an impact—direct or indirect—on fundraising, including receptions, alumni and parent/guardian phonathons, gift acknowledgments, and donor stewardship.
  6. Work with the communications staff to develop communications tools to support fundraising efforts, including: printed materials such as direct mail appeals and an annual Report of Contributions (ROC); social media; and website strategies.
  7. Provide regular reports to development office staff, trustees, administrators, and key volunteers. Analyze the productivity of solicitation efforts and make recommendations for improvement.
  8. Bring a curious, joyful, growth-oriented mindset to the work of advancing the mission of Lakeside School through fundraising.


Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) 

  1. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful fundraising programs.
  2. Personable style with an interest in others, excellent listening skills, and a track record of successfully making the gift ask.
  3. Superior organizational skills and expertise at coordinating, prioritizing, and managing a year-long list of complex projects. Effective in handling multiple concurrent tasks.
  4.  Exceptional written and verbal communications capabilities.
  5. A motivated, responsive professional, with the ability to meet deadlines and handle many details; someone who is forward-thinking and a good planner.
  6. Computer proficiency on Windows/PC platform, with spreadsheet, data-base, and word-processing software is essential; demonstrated experience in analyzing fundraising data, producing reports, and suggesting possible program changes.
  7. Experience in using technology tools and digital platforms for outreach and communications.
  8. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; to hold self and others accountable to accomplish results; and to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  9. Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions.
  10. An understanding of different perspectives, the ability to interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have different cultural frameworks.
  11. Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal history background checks.

Education and Experience

  1. Liberal arts bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.
  2. At least three years of experience in development work, preferably in the not-for-profit or education sectors.
  3. Experience with fundraising software is preferred.
  4. Prior experience managing volunteers desired.
