Family: An Asian Pacific Islander LGBTQ Gathering was a one-day conference hosted at North Seattle College on June 13th, 2015. Geared toward API LGBTQ youth, their families and allies, Family was both a celebration and learning experience with over 100 in attendance from across the country. PFLAG Seattle and Bellevue, API Chaya, Tadaima, ACRS, the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Seattle and others came together to put on the event. Since Family, we have heard stories about individuals who were inspired by the space we have been working to create and are moving to make similar efforts in Sacramento. Yet another woman who attended that lives in the Seattle area is helping to create a transgender document through the National Queer API Alliance.

It is through strengthening our efforts as a community that we will be able to create inclusive spaces for API LGBTQ individuals. The Seattle JACL is now working on an API PFLAG support group with the help of PFLAG Seattle. The goal is to provide a monthly support group for locals to come and share their stories and experiences.

If you would like to join this support group or learn more about our efforts, please e-mail [email protected] for more information.
