On December 1, Comcast will launch Cinema Asian America, a ground-breaking new video-on demand offering, which will feature Asian American films and videos. For the first time, millions of viewers across the nation will be able to watch a monthly-curated series of Asian American and Asian films, which will collect together award-winning films fresh from the film festival circuit and classics which beg to be revisited. These films will include both short and feature-length works and the genres will range from documentary to narrative to experimental.
Each month, Cinema Asian America will offer thematic sections which highlight films which explore a range of topics and experiences and exemplify the diversity of the Asian American community. From hard-hitting documentaries, to envelope-pushing short films to award-winning independent feature narrative films, the works will offer a forward-looking vision of Asian America, and the craft of talented filmmakers from around the country. From the memories of a half Bangladeshi halal butcher in the Bronx, to the perspective of a young Chinese adoptee, to the tale of two lovelorn teens in Manila, to the histories of Japanese Americans during WWII, Cinema Asian America will offer not only the best in recent America and world cinema, but stories which illuminate the richness of Asian America.
