On Sunday afternoon, October 14, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, outdoor organizations are hosting a free, fun and family-oriented event at El Centro De La Raza. Come have a taste of the outdoors, wildlife, trails, and rivers!
For too long, America’s public lands have been out of reach for many communities. Since the beginning of the national park system, many national parks, rivers, and trails have been sanctuaries for folks with the money and privilege. Organizations like the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) and others recognize that the future of these treasures, depends upon making sure that everyone can access them. Nature is critical to our wellbeing, renewal, learning, and recreation.
In this spirit, NPCA and over 30 partners from across the state worked with Beacon Hill to bring a taste of Washington’s national parks, rivers and trails to south Seattle for a family-friendly event on Sunday October 14 from 2pm to 6 pm at El Centro de la Raza.
October marks the 50th birthday for North Cascades National Park, the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and the National Trails System Act, marking the sustained efforts to preserve and bring the best of trails, river, and North Cascades National Park to the public.
Choose Your Adventure: Trails, Rivers and the North Cascades’ 50th will bring together a variety of activities and community voices. The afternoon will feature short films, presentations, inspiring artwork, outdoor games, outdoor recreation trainings, and even captivating wildlife from the Woodland Park and local West Sound Wildlife Shelter. Whether you want to see a porcupine, an eagle, or chat with a park ranger, this event will connect you to something that resounds within you.
Stay for the entire event or just drop by for an activity or two. Come enjoy some food carts, beer, desserts, family activities, and/or visit with community members. Let’s raise our water bottles and celebrate 50 years of Washington’s North Cascades, rivers, and trails!
