Volunteers of the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) have organized a Thanksgiving lunch for Nickelsville residents on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Guests are invited to the International District Community Center from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. located at 719 8th Ave S. for a festive Thanksgiving meal. Winter clothing, blankets, and toiletries will also be distributed.

Nickelsville, a tent city encampment, is now located at 1010 S. Dearborn St. in Seattle’s International District. The encampment consists of tents and simple sleeping structures for 40 homeless individuals and their children. The encampment formed in 2008 as shelters were full and the need for housing continued to grow. Nickelsville is a self-managed community of homeless men, women, children, and pets.

Individuals interested in making a donation to Nickelsville can do so in person at their location of 1010 S. Dearborn St. or at the LIHI main office at 2407 1st Ave. in Belltown. Monetary donations can also be made online at www.LIHI.org.
