The following is a press release from Northwest Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council:
TUKWILA, WASH. – Minority Business Enterprises were the real winners at a golf tournament yesterday.
The Northwest Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council’s annual Scholarship Fundraiser raised $8,880 to support MBE education and development. This amount goes toward the Council’s ongoing scholarship fund, which provides on average $21,000 annually to select MBEs for continuing education courses, training opportunities, and conference attendance. For example, the funds have enabled several MBEs to attend the University of Washington Foster School of Business’s Minority Business Executive Program every year.
More than 130 people attended the fundraiser, which was held at the Golf Club at Newcastle. The program featured the tournament, an awards dinner, and a silent auction. Notable auction items included a home-cooked dinner at the home of Council President & CEO Fernando Martinez, a Starbucks Tour and Coffee Cupping Experience, and a women’s self-defense course.
“Tuesday’s scholarship fundraiser proved once again how important supplier diversity is to our Members, MBEs, and our regional economy,” Martinez said. “We had great participation, contributed to our scholarship fund, and, along the way, had a great time. Thank you to all our supporters and participants.”
The event was made possible with the sponsorship of Union Bank, Zones, Inc., Trio Group, and Costco. Volunteers from Boeing, Costco, Microsoft, and the Starbucks Corporation worked hard to execute a flawless event.
“Our annual scholarship fundraiser is critical to accomplishment of our vision and mission. The Council is committed to driving economic growth of our communities through leveraging the supplier diversity vehicle. Over the last five years, we have awarded over $100,000 in MBE educational and development scholarships,” Martinez said. “This event allows all our sponsors, colleagues, and supporters to network, have a great day at an off-site office, and contribute to our scholarship fund. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s scholarship fundraiser.”
