Emma Catague, one of the founding mothers of API Women and Family Safety Center (now API Chaya), announced her retirement in March.
Catague began her advocacy work for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in 1990. Throughout her career, she has advocated for the rights and needs of API communities both locally with organizations such as the Filipino Community Center and nationally with organizations such as the Family Violence Prevention Fund and Sisters of Color Ending Sexual Assault (SCESA) in providing national technical assistance to service providers on issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in the API communities.
Catague said in a statement that she will continue her work in the community through the Filipino Community Center and continues to be a close ally and member of the API Chaya family.
