International Examiner’s 19th Annual Community Voice Awards Dinner & Benefit

The International Examiner (IE) is proud to present our 19th Annual Community Voice Awards Dinner & Benefit on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at The New Hong Kong Restaurant in Chinatown-International District!

Our nation is facing hard economic times, but we are working hard to sustain this community paper to continue the legacy of Asian Pacific American voices through local and national news coverage of contemporary issues in all subject matters that impact the community.   APIs are a growing community and the IE boasts 30,000 dedicated readers that believe in the mission of its work. The IE believes in both connecting to its community and celebrating the accomplishments of local APIs, which we have accomplished for the past 36 years.

The IE is honored to announce this year’s 19th annual Community Voice Awards to our local unsung Asian Pacific American heroes:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Sharon Maeda, long-time influential leader locally, nationally, and internationally. Sharon is a groundbreaker in the media world who owned Spectra Communications, developed youth programs in White Center, served on U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development under Secretary Henry Cisneros, and currently works at United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 21.
  • The Arts: Cassie Chinn, Deputy Executive Director of the Wing Luke Asian Museum
  • The Tatsuo Nakata Youth Award: Vu Le, Executive Director of the Vietnamese Friendship Association (VFA)
  • Outstanding Organization: The Asian Pacific Islander Leadership Community Foundation (ACLF) fosters leadership and civic engagement of APIs to commit to issues of social justice, community empowerment, and public service.
